In structure of Institute of Neurosurgery the department operates since 1950.
There are main scientific directions and applical researches in the department: peculiarities of localization and clinic, surgical treatment and its outcomes in the children with brain and spinal tumors, malformations of central and peripheral nervous system; diagnosis and surgical treatment of postpunctional cholesteatomas of caudo-medullary localization; pathogenesis and surgical treatment of the different forms of hydrocephalus; peculiarities of neurosurgical help to the newborns with birth craniocerebral trauma; etiopathologenesis and surgical treatment of peadiatric chronic subdural hematomas; the research of peculiarities of clinic, treatment and its outcome of craniocerebral trauma in the children of different ages; creation of speciality “paediatric neurosurgery” in Ukraine; analysis of influence of Chernobyl`s disaster on the paediatric neurosurgical pathology.
