Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • This submission was not previously published and was not sent to editors of other journals.
  • Submission of the manuscript for publication is agreed with the head of the institution (department, faculty), based on which the study was conducted.
  • The survey results are not falsified.
  • The manuscript does not contain plagiarism.
  • The manuscript conforms Ukrainian Neurosurgical Journal (see Author Guidelines).
  • The manuscript is submitted as a single Microsoft Word file.
  • All figures (in graphical format) are also archived (rar, zip), and are given as attached files.

Author Guidelines

When writing these instructions International Committee of Medical Journal Editors Recommendations were used.

  1. Articles in the Ukrainian Neurosurgical Journal are published in Ukrainian and English.
  2. Article given for publication should consist of such parts:

Title of the article
Lower-case letters. NO CAPS.

First Name, initial for Middle Name, Last Name of the authors
If authors work in different units/departments of the same institution or in different institutions, their surnames are indicated by superscript¹.

Affiliation, city, country
If authors work in different units/departments of the same institution or in different institutions, place of job is indicated by superscript¹ corresponding to surname.

The text — up to 70,000 characters, structured as follows:

The manuscript should be submitted as a single Microsoft Word file (.doc, .docx).

  1. Requirements for composites of the article.

Statistics
The list of applied statistical methods and programs for calculations should be given in “Materials and methods”. In the article, at the first mention of the method its name, the calculated indicator and significance should be given (chi-square χ2=1.86, p=0.172).
Average values are given as M±m: M — arithmetical mean, m — error of the mean.
In the text and tables significance of p should be given as p=..., not p<... .
The correlation coefficients are given just with p for instance (r=0.777; p=0.007).

Tables
Should be made in Word. They are given in the text at their first reference.

Graphs, charts
May be implemented in Word or any other program. Graphs and charts with captions are given in the text at their first reference. If graphs are not in Word, they should be given as separate files in their original format or as TIFF or JPG files (at least 700 pixels).

Images and photos
Images and photos with captions are given in the text at their first reference and attached as separate files (TIFF or JPG files — at least 700 pixels).
In total not more than 10 illustrations are included. If more than 10 illustrations are needed, the issue will be solved individually, if in the opinion of the editorial board, they are of particular interest to readers.
Color images will be displayed in color online but in grayscale in the print edition.

Measurements
Are given as International System of Units (SI)

Terms
Are given according to the International Anatomical Nomenclature

Diseases
Are given according to International Classification of Diseases

References

Credit the sources in order of your citing.

Give the references in square brackets.

It is preferred to have at least 50 % of references have been published over last 5 years.

Provide the citation of sources in Vancouver style [Guide] [Samples ].

The references should contain doi and PMID (if any, and PMCID), in the absence of them URL of the paper. The sources are preferred to be found in the Internet.

PubMed uses Vancouver style (with doi, PMID and PMCID). To extract article description correctly from this database find "Cite" button in the right of the article name on the page with sought paper. When you click on it, the "Citation Text" window will appear. In the lower right corner select Format: "NLM" and in the lower left corner click "Copy". This is your reference in Vancouver style with doi and PMID (PMCID).

If there is no doi in PubMed, search for it in CrossRef.

The references list should contain the surnames of all authors of cited source.

Avoid citing such types of sources as:
- Instructions for equipment and drugs;
- Scientific conference and symposium abstracts
- Dissertations, synopsis;
- Textbooks
If necessary mention this source in the text in parenthesis. Give the reference in Vancouver style.

If citing a scientific work in Cyrillic provide its bibliographies in the original language and in English (if there is English abstract) or Romanize them if there is no English abstract. Follow the title with the original language.
