Abstract

The efficacy of surgical treatment of spinal tumors is evaluated from a retrospective analysis of 101 case histories of patients with primary and metastatic tumors of the vertebrae. Neurovisual findings, clinical symptoms, surgical strategy, and instrumentation of the spine are analyzed. Results of treatment of patients with tumors of different histological structure and location and the method of treatment (volume of removed tumor) are discussed. The incidence of relapses is lower and life span is longer after radical removal of spinal tumors at the interface between involved and normal tissues. Adequate vertebroplasty and stabilisation of the spine promote a more complete rehabilitation of patients and improve the quality of their life.
